Who we've helped so far

Since HUGS became an entity (our first meeting was March 31, 2022!) we have helped 35 adults and children who are fleeing violence in Ukraine. The experiences of getting to know each other, helping them find their way through Canadian life, sharing meals, experiencing our winter... it doesn't make sense to reduce all the stories to numbers, but sometimes it helps to give this big picture. • 32 adults and 12 children have received financial/logistical/hosting/language help from HUGS in Brighton

• 17 families have opened their homes to host Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia

• more than 50 volunteers help with fundraising, event planning, driving, administration, hosting, assistance in finding employment, and so on

• almost $83,000 raised to date

• 15 families have moved into their own new homes either in the Brighton area, or in a bigger centre
